Got down early as I was heading up to Roadford Lake in the afternoon for the big windsurfing demo and I thought I'd catch some morning waves. Timo Mullen was coming off the water as I was rigging up and wasn't too impressed, waves were ok but the wind was too light. That swayed my decision to a 5.4 and fat boys waveboard.

By the time I hit the water it was high tide with challenging shore break, very little beach and everyone else had gone. On top of that I was recovering from a damaged muscle in my back and I was loaded up on anti-inflammatories, looking at the waves it was a bit intimidating. Got through the lee Burgh Island and was flying into big jumps, on the verge of overpowered, fast approaching the monsters opposite the river. Some fast gybes off the wave with fast 8-10 foot barrelling bowls chasing you is not the ideal conditions to be recovering from a bad back!!

The sun came out and more people had arrived and were frantically rigging to catch the conditions before the forecast wind drop. I stayed for a couple of hours for the best conditions this year so far. Massive floaty jumps and some heart in the throat wave rides - what more could you ask for?
